Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
And His courtyards with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness is to all generations.
Psalm 100 (NASB)
I find Psalm 100 to be a powerful Psalm in that in a few short verses it directs our attention toward God and to worship Him. Mathew Henry’s elaborates on the significance of worship in this Psalm through noting that “we have here a strong invitation to worship God; not that God needs us, or anything we have or can do, but it is his will that we should serve the Lord, should devote ourselves to his service and employ ourselves in it; and that we should not only serve him in all instances of obedience to his law, but that we should come before his presence in the ordinances which he has appointed and in which he has promised to manifest himself” (Matthew Henry, Psalms, Commentary on the Bible). I hope that you take time today to ponder this Psalm and to put into practice our call to worship and to serve the one and only true God and Creator of the Universe.
